Float valves on Sharjah roofs decide whether stored water stays in the tank or becomes the ceiling of the flat underneath.
Supply hours taught Sharjah to keep a reservoir above the flats, so a stuck float is not a minor fitting. When the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority fills the line, a valve full of scale either shuts or it overflows the roof. Emergency Plumber starts with that valve, the inlet screen, the outlet flange and the lid before anyone talks about a new tank. Plastic bodies crack in the sun. Shared tanks on older blocks in Al Nahda, Abu Shagara, Al Qasimia and Rolla may feed several small flats, which means the landlord, not a single tenant, has to agree the hour the water goes off. We drain, clean or repair, and we do not leave the roof until the float has stopped the inlet.
Newer villas in Muwaileh, Aljada and Tilal City usually own their tank, and the failure is a split outlet or a lid that has blown off and let dust settle into the booster. A ground tank that feeds the pump collects the silt the roof tank missed, so cleaning only the upper vessel leaves the complaint in place. Emergency Plumber will weld a small crack above the water line when the plastic is still sound, and will refuse a sun-split seam that will open again in July. You are told how long the taps will be dry. A single villa tank is often a few hours. A tank shared by a whole stair is booked with every flat warned, not discovered at the door.
Storage the city learned, and the float that forgets
People in Sharjah did not put tanks on roofs as decoration. Supply timing made storage the ordinary way to get through the day, and the float valve is what keeps that store from becoming a flood. Emergency Plumber treats a top-floor stain that appears when the tank is full as a roof job until the flange and the overflow prove innocent. In Al Qasimia and Rolla the same tank may belong to several small flats, so isolation needs the landlord's key and a clear hour. A pump that keeps filling after the high level should have cut is the twin fault: the float is not the only control. We fix the control that failed, then watch a fill, rather than mopping the roof and leaving the same valve in place.
What happens on the job
1
Close the inlet and agree the outage
Tell every flat on a shared tank, then drain or use the water down before the lid comes off.
2
Service the float, flange and lid
Clean what is still a container, and replace fittings that weep before recommending a whole new tank.
3
Watch a real fill
The float must shut the inlet on its own before Emergency Plumber leaves the roof.
Where this call usually takes us
Shared roof tanks are still common across Al Nahda, Abu Shagara, Al Qasimia and Rolla, where one vessel can feed a handful of small flats. Villas in Muwaileh, Aljada, Tilal City and University City usually have their own tank and a pump below it. Emergency Plumber asks who shares the vessel before a drain-down is booked, because the outage is the sensitive part.
The tank never quite fills in the supply window. Can you change SEWA's timing?+
No. Emergency Plumber does not alter the authority's hours. We check the float, the inlet screen and whether a pump is short-cycling and stealing the water before the tank can recover. A choked screen will make a healthy supply look weak. If the valve shuts early because it is scaled, that is a repair on the roof, and it is the part Sharjah tanks depend on. The bill and the timing stay with the utility.
How long will the water be off for a shared tank?+
A single villa tank in Tilal City or Muwaileh is often a few hours. A tank that feeds several flats in Al Nahda or Abu Shagara is booked as a longer window, and the landlord needs to warn the tenants before we drain it. Emergency Plumber will not start a shared drain-down because one person is home and the others have not been told. You hear the hour the outlet can open again before we leave.
Can a cracked plastic tank be repaired?+
A small crack above the water line, on plastic that has not gone brittle, can sometimes be welded. A split seam on a sun-baked tank is a replacement, because the next hot week opens it onto the ceiling below. Emergency Plumber will say which of those we are holding. The outlet flange is checked at the same time, since a weep at the fitting is often blamed on the wall of the tank.
Do you leave a note a landlord can keep?+
Yes. A short note of the date, which tank, and what was done to the float, the lid and the outlet. It is not a municipality certificate, and we will not pretend it is one if an authority wants its own vendor. Owners with several small flats use the note when a tenant later asks who last opened the roof. The float test at the end of the visit is part of what the note records.
